Becoming bi-coastal? Big life decision. Choosing a fixer upper? Some may say crazy life decision.
Sammy may have been convinced that the only renovation needed was replacing the bathtub, but a year after signing papers on their apartment, it’s almost unrecognizable. Now they have dream homes on both coasts! We sat down with Amy & Sammy to ask them about their journey.
How did you know that you wanted to live in Philly? What drew you to the city and to the art museum neighborhood specifically?
We have both lived in NYC and wanted to have an east coast, city apartment without the prohibitive cost of living in NYC. The art museum neighborhood feels like there is a bit more air and space. We like the proximity of the park and walking distance to many world class museums.
Being bi-coastal, how do you make the best of both worlds?
It gives us the opportunity to be near family on both coasts. We love the different beauty of both cities.
How would you describe your personal interior design style?
Mid Century blended with new pieces, Estate Sale finds, our family history gems and Amy’s original art.
What was your non-negotiable when it came to finding your dream home?
Top floor and natural light.
When you bought your condo, you knew right away you would do some renovating. Tell us more about your construction journey.
“All we have to replace is the bath tub!!!” Sammy saw the apartment before Amy and sent her a video of the walk through and knew they would both love it. Sammy was convinced the only thing necessary to redo was the bathroom, and 1 year later, the entire apartment was renovated. Since it’s a small space, we made construction/renovation choices that reflected the necessity to utilize every square foot. Fortunately, the windows and natural light didn’t call for any fixing.
What’s your favorite room? Why?
All two of them. Because they are bright and we renovated them exactly how we wanted to and it feels cozy.
What is one thing you need in your home to make it yours?
Flowers and personal objects.
If you could throw a theme party in your house, what would be the theme?
The 1960’s meets Jeopardy.
A day spent running around the neighborhood: what’s your first stop and last stop?
Whole Foods and Whole Foods.
How has your home changed from move-in day?
Move in day took 5 months, so, everything!
Now that you’ve moved in officially, what’s your favorite thing about your home so far?
Every decision we’ve made from the furniture to decorations has been well thought out and curated. It feels unique and like home. The light is gorgeous (from sunrise to sunset) even on the cloudiest of days.
