Ryan & Lauren

Lauren and Ryan wanted to live in a neighborhood where they could be close to everything the city has to offer but a respite from the "concrete jungle" of where they previously lived in South Philly, and that’s exactly what 817 North Taylor Street gave them.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?

Modern, slightly industrial.

How would you describe your neighborhood?

Family friendly, tree lined, close to everything.

What was your non-negotiable when it came to finding your dream home?

We wanted to live in a neighborhood where we could be close to everything the city has to offer but a respite from the "concrete jungle" of where we were previously in South Philly.

What's your favorite room? Why?

The open living/dining room. It is where all the action happens. Family meals, play time, adult relaxation time once Ali goes to bed.

A day spent running around the neighborhood: what's your first stop and last stop?

Our first stop would be the Van Coln playground so Ali can run around and then swing down the street for some snacks and groceries at Whole Foods. We would end our day with a dinner at Bad Brother, which is great for adults and kids in the early evening hours. Sit there and have a meal and a few drinks before heading home to put Ali to bed.

How has your home changed from move-in day?

The biggest change we made was making our second bedroom bigger so that we would have more space for a nursery when we welcomed our daughter into the world.

What's your favorite memory of your home?

One of our two block parties in 2022, it was a spring day but was scolding hot. We set up two pools and a sprinkler for the kids. One of the pools was from a neighbor whose family had lived on the block for 50+ years, the pool was so big it was almost the entire width of the street, kids and parents were in it all day even tho the water was freezing cold.

What was the catalyst to you purchasing a new home?

We got the opportunity to move full time to our home in Wildwood where our daughter’s grandparents live, couldn't pass up the opportunity to be walking distance to family and at the beach!

What's your favorite piece of Philly culture?

We are members of both the Academy of Sciences and the Zoo. We can walk to both institutions and Ali absolutely loves them!
